You ask why there was welding in Costa Mesa? They took the boat up to where the tower was made to have 5 items welded to the tower - as follows:

These two plates were welded to the port side of the                              A view from behind with the two new and          On the bottom of the dashboard there are two plugs - one

There are two similar plates welded to the frame of the sun shade

The aft plate mounts the base of an Adcock (ADF) antenna - next picture. the forward plate.

Unfortunately I forgot to take picture of the ADF unit which is mounted inside at the front-left corner of the windows - along with it's own VHF radio which accounts for the second VHF antenna above. The old VHF antenna was moved up to make them symmetrical.

Why another VHF radio? This is a Ray Hsieh special. It is programmed to cover (and scan) ALL 200 channels that are available including 2 meter Ham radio bands that a lot of the boats are using for secrecy.  Where mounted, they do not interfere with vision through the window.

Sorry, but there doesn't seem to be any room left for more add-ons unless, of course we build in a Sonar.

Today is beautiful with no wind and flat seas. Perfect for going south (only 65 miles to the 213) or looking for the others locally. Tomorrow the winds build up with local gusts to 25. Sounds nasty for the next few days.
